In today's world, hackathons have become an integral part of the lives of many IT teams, where they can show off their talents, learn new things, and find non-standard solutions for various problems. One of these events was a hackathon dedicated to the design of a food delivery application, in which the Loza Studio design team took part. In this article, we will talk about their experiences, challenges and achievements during this exciting competition.

Preparation for the Hackathon

Preparation for the hackathon began long before its official start. The Loza Studio team consisted of experienced designers specializing in UX/UI design, and each member had a specific role in the project. To ensure effective work during the hackathon, the team held several preliminary meetings to discuss strategies, goals, and task distribution.

• Oleksiy focused on user research and creating user personas.

• Maria was responsible for developing the main layouts and prototypes.

• Iryna concentrated on visual design and branding.

• Dmytro worked on interactive elements and animations.

Hackathon Day. The hackathon started with morning registration and introductions with other participants. Following this, the organizers presented the main requirements for the food delivery app and the criteria by which the teams’ work would be evaluated. Key aspects included usability, innovation, and overall visual appearance.

First Stage: Research and Idea. In the initial stage, the Loza Studio team concentrated on researching user needs and expectations. Oleksiy conducted surveys among potential users and created several personas based on the data collected. This helped the team understand which features and elements would be most important for the users of the future app.

Second Stage: Creating a Prototype. After identifying user needs, the team moved on to creating a prototype. Maria developed the main interface layouts, considering the research results. She also created a navigation scheme that allowed easy transitions between different sections of the app.

Third Stage: Visual Design. At this stage, Iryna worked on developing the app’s visual style. She chose a color palette, fonts, and icons that reflected the brand and created an attractive appearance. Iryna also designed a logo for the app that conveyed its main idea – fast and convenient food delivery.

Fourth Stage: Interactivity and Animations. Dmytro worked on interactive elements and animations that made using the app more enjoyable and intuitive. He added animations for screen transitions, interactive buttons, and other elements that enhanced the user experience.

Presentation and Results. After completing the main design work, the Loza Studio team prepared a presentation for the judges. They presented their solution, emphasizing innovative features, ease of use, and attractive visual appearance. Oleksiy presented the user research results, Maria showcased the main prototypes, Iryna demonstrated the visual design, and Dmytro highlighted the interactive elements.

The judges highly appreciated Loza Studio’s work, noting their professionalism and creativity. Special attention was given to the usability and visual appeal of the app.

Conclusion

Participating in the hackathon was not only an opportunity for the Loza Studio team to demonstrate their skills and knowledge but also to gain valuable experience working under stressful conditions with limited time. They showed that even in a short period, a high-quality and functional design can be created if working harmoniously and efficiently. The hackathon provided an excellent platform for exchanging ideas, inspiration, and enhancing professional skills.
